Staff participates in regional disaster exercise

logo.gifStaff from Minnesota Valley Health Center (MVHC) participated in a regional tabletop exercise on Friday, May 16, at South Central College in North Mankato. The exercise involved a facilitated discussion of activities in response to a fictitious disaster scenario. Multiple agencies and organizations participated, including public health, hospitals, medical clinics, emergency management, emergency medical services, public safety and other community and regional partners.

“This tabletop exercise was a good way to assess our response capabilities, as well as how we would collaborate with other entities in the event of a large-scale event,” says MVHC CEO Pam Williams. “We drill for various emergency scenarios on a regular basis and find the exercises to be extremely valuable. Bringing together regional entities and agencies helps us prepare for a coordinated response in a disaster.”

The exercise focused on activation and operation of mass dispensing clinics in response to a threat to public health in the region. Objectives for the exercise included:

  • Assessment of medical surge capabilities & patient triage
  • Emergency operations coordination
  • Information sharing
  • Healthcare system preparedness
  • Assessment of public and private services and resources

MVHC Interim CEO Pam Williams; Director of Nursing Ambria Hutton and Quality Coordinator Ann Johnson represented MVHC at the training.
