MVHC Nursing Home earns 5 Star Ranking
February 27, 2014
For the third year in a row, Minnesota Valley Health Center’s Nursing Home has earned a 5-star rating from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The 5-Star Quality Rating System was created to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes.
“This exceptional recognition is the result of the hard work of our entire staff who are dedicated to providing the highest quality clinical, spiritual, and emotional care to our residents.” said LuAnn Linn, Nursing Home Administrator.
Nursing home ratings are taken from three sources of data: onsite health inspections, staffing and quality measures. The CMS provides a star rating for each of these three sources and combines the scores to calculate an overall rating.
“I’m very proud of the work we do and the high level of care and compassion that is shown to residents and their loved ones,” Linn said. “The rating system provides consumers an avenue to research the performance of facilities based on objective data.”
This CMS rating has also been recognized by USNews & World Report which publishes an annual online listing of the Best Nursing Homes by state in the United States. That information can be found at http://health.usnews.com/best-nursing-homes/area/mn.
The health inspection process looks at all major aspects of care in a nursing home - about 180 different items. It is the only source of information that comes from a trained team of objective surveyors who visit (unannounced) each nursing home to check on the quality of care, inspect medical records and talk with residents.
